When many people think of Alcatraz Island they get a sense of ambiguity and instantly want to visit. The thought of an island surrounded by freezing water that holds the world’s most notorious criminals with the highest security developments is enough to give anyone chills. Alcatraz, also known as “the Rock”, housed thousands of prisoners from 1934-1963, and in that time, 36 men tried to escape in 19 different attempts. Out of the 36 people who tried to escape, 23 were caught, 2 drowned, and 6 were shot. Countless crimes and escapes over the course of several years, including armed robbery and narcotics possession, earned Morris his ticket to Alcatraz. On January 20,1960 Morris stepped foot on Alcatraz island becoming inmate #AZ-1441. The other accomplices behind the project also had a criminal record just as impressive as Morris’. The Anglin brothers were finally sent to Alcatraz for numerous bank robberies along with their third brother Alfred. Morris and the Anglins first became acquainted with each other at the Federal Penitentiary in Atlanta ensuring that additional planning could have been made prior to their Alcatraz arrival.
