Greek Literature


Greeks created a great literature. Greek writers created masterpieces that have inspired, influenced, and challenged readers to today.
Romans, on the other hand, turned to Greeks when it came to literature, and writing.
The Greek alphabet came from the Phoenician alphabet. During the period from the 8th to the 5th century B.C., local differences caused the forms of letters to vary from one city-state to another with Greece. But from the 4th century on the alphabet became uniform throughout the Greek world.

The literature in our country obviously grew out of the Greeks' style of writing. Our alphabet which we base all of our language on came from the Greeks. The way that we talk and write comes from them. Our source of entertainment comes from the Greeks. They invented the theater and comedies. The average person watches a television comedy every day. A lot of people also go to the theater for entertainment.

Ancient Greeks' and Romans' art is called classical art. This name describes later periods when artists looked for their inspiration. Romans learned sculpture and painting from the Greeks. Classical art has simplicity and reasonableness, humanity, and sheer beauty.

The first and best period of classical art began in Greece about the middle of the 5th century B.C. By then Greek sculptors had solved many of the problems that artists faced. They learned to represent the human form naturally and easily, in action or at rest. They were interested mostly in portraying gods, ...

Greek art is something that no one is our country has ever lived up to, and probably never will. It was perfected and detailed and realistic.
