Guilt and Fear: Is There A Difference?

When I hear the terms guilt and fear I think of the moon and the ocean. The moon rocks the ocean to create waves the same way fear rocks your emotions and creates guilt. However, in no way does the ocean affect the moon, the same way guilt does not affect fear. Guilt is merely the result of fearing consequences. Fear in a way drives guilt. The guilt you face is dependent on your fears, but you won't necessarily have guilt just because you are afraid. Fear is an independent variable that sets off a chain reaction creating guilt.

others may think or feel and regret what they have done. Fear drives your sense of guilt, which is why once you lose fear, you also lose your sense of guilt.

Fear is the reason you feel guilt, but guilt doesn't drive fear in anyway. It is the end of a chain reaction that you cannot reverse. In times when you are scared, regret and remorse are not in your mind, and if they are it is because you are afraid that a consequence of your previous actions is soon to take place. Feelings of distress are caused by danger, anxiety, or even by things you imagine; not by guilt. This is not the same as being afraid of guilt. If fright wasn't involved then guilt would not be a part of the equation. Fear is the base of most problems, including guilt, and is not easily influence.

In a society that is easily influenced, such as our own, fear and guilt play a large role. Being scared or panicked changes how you make your decisions. The fear of what will happen after your decision is made ...
