Jonathon swift Gulliver's Travels is one of the most famous literature to emerge from the 18th century. Swifts clever writing as well as the books humor and uniqueness makes it exceptionally enjoyable to read. In the beginning of the novel, the description of Gulliver's youth and education provides the reader with background knowledge, and gives the novel a authentic experience of his travels at sea. The reader learns how Gulliver's adventurous have changed him and the perception of people, which creates the central theme of the 'individual versus society'. the reader may be mislead of what the other characters are actually like. With him we travel around the world, and he see what Gulliver's opinion and attitudes are toward other people in a new society. While he meets the new cultures and civilizations, the reader discovers that they are all very different then Gulliver is familiar with, since Swift creates characters that are all very diverse then Gulliver in aspects of size, shape, physical appearance and behavior. These ideas contribute to Gulliver being used and knocked around by the other societies. In Lilliput he seems to be open-minded compared to the slyness of the Lilliputians. Although the Lilliputians are only six inches tall, its helps to emphasize Gulliver attitude, since he was being controlled by the Lilliputians despite his overwhelming physical power compared to them.
