Hamlet: Repercussions Of Actions

William Shakespeare’s Hamlet demonstrates the method of human decision making when action and reason are simultaneously contemplated throughout the novel. When making decisions it is easy to react on your emotions rather than to think the situation through; however, Hamlet’s character shows that it is also important to reflect upon the repercussions of actions that you may take. When Hamlets father’s ghost reveals the truth about his death we see the beginning of Hamlets calamity. Through his ultimatum of seeking revenge for his father by killing his uncle, “Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder,” (1.5.31), or by delaying time through manipulative events like the play and acting ...

with my uncle,” 1.2.142. In this soliloquy we see that Hamlet is both angry and confused with the Queens involvement with Claudius. He starts to question whether or not the Queen is a good woman and whether or not she was devoted to her King. However, Hamlet restrains from confronting the issue because he knows that acting out in rage could only lead to worse circumstances. This shows us that Hamlet is perceived as a more of a passive aggressive person by the way he chooses not to address the troubles which anger him, “It is not, nor it cannot come to good. But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue,” 1.2.163. This ends up hurting Hamlet at the end of every day because he ends up holding a grudge against his mother and becoming angry when nothing is resolved.
