Today just about everyone knows Colonel Sanders, or has tried his secret recipe of eleven herbs and spices. We recognize his image in red and white on restaurant signs around the world. His is one of the most successful fast food chains in the world. He once said "I made a resolve then that I was going to amount to something if I could. And no hours, nor amount of labor, nor amount of money would deter me from giving the best that there was in me. And I have done that ever since, and I win by it." his family while his mother was forced to work away from their home for days at a time. Thus, leaving the children to scrounge for food. Sanders quickly learned how to prepare bread and vegetables, and by the age of 7 were excelling in meat. At 12, Harland's' mother remarried a man that did not like children. They were all sent elsewhere to live. This is where Harland got his first paying job as a farmhand making only 15 dollars a month. He held this job for several years, after that he had a series of low paying jobs. His schooling ended in the seventh grade. Later in life he got two degrees in correspondence schools. Harland was married twice, resulting in three children. His first marriage lasted for 39 years. He then married Claudia Ledinton and remained with her until his death. It was in 1936 when Harland Sanders received the honorary title of "Colonel" from the governor of Kentucky.
