suicides seriously because she knows that Harold does it to get her attention and is just always trying to be plain silly. When the movie first begins, you see Harold fake hanging himself on a rope in which his mother doesn’t even look at him and walks in normally saying “I suppose you think that’s very funny Harold?”. Harold then seems disappointed because it seemed like he was expecting for his mother to get a heart attack by the thought that maybe Harold did really hang himself. Although, his mother in the movie shows how she knows him too well and never falls for any of his over dramatic suicides and tricks that he does just to get a bit of her attention. Harold’s suicide schemes can symbolize his desire for a better or new life. He perhaps may be trying to kill himself in the thoughts of trying to kill his old life, memories, and past habits that are hunting him now.
