Fly Away Helicopter Parents

Have you ever witnessed or been a victim of Helicopter Parenting? The children of Helicopter parents (HP) lack social skills and independence. Too much involvement from parents can hinder self-reliance due to lack of independence.
To begin, helicopter parents do not realize the harm they cause to their child. This forces the child to always rely and depend on their parents. The parent may also do the occasional homework assignment for the student in order for him/her to succeed in school. Helicopter parents go to great lengths to help their children succeed.
Furthermore, helicopter parents cause a disruption in the child's life. These children simply cannot focus or do anything independently without a parent's assistance. In the article, "Helicopter Parents; Do They Help or Hurt Kids", Amy Morin states the definition of HP; "A helicopter parent is a type of discipline where parents become overly involved" Morin (1). Overly involved is the reason these children do not perform well in independent situations. Disruptions negatively affect these children causing them to lose focus and become unable to make decisions for themselves.
