The wind blew powerful on the 22nd June 1611. The area was bleakness, cold and iced. The 46 old Henry Hudson, all cold and frostbitten, had nothing but a boat, his eight loyal crew members and his son John. He was never heard of again.
That was the tragical death of the English explorer and navigator Henry Hudson, who is known for searching for a passage at the North Pole to China and Japan. So he set sail one year later, in May of the year 1607, with an old ship named ‘Hopewell’ and a 20 member crew. But the expedition was hopeless. The journey was very tough and the weather was freezing, but they got to see a beauty of the nature. They were able to see some magnificent whales, which lived in the waters. But also then they got problems. The whale traders, which occupied the region, tried to drive away the Hopewell and their crew. They returned home again, but not because of their hunters, also because of the horrible weather conditions. They couldn’t stand it anymore and returned south. In September 1607 they arrived at Tilbury in England, where Hudson reported about the whale hunters as if it had been fleets of Whaling ships.
