Hero’s Journey in The Kite Runner
The Hero’s Journey is an aspect that is found in many books and movies such as: The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, The Wizard of Oz, and many more. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini portrays the idea of a Hero’s Journey very well. The main character, Amir, struggles on his journey in The Kite Runner by facing many obstacles along the way. Amir goes through all 12 steps of the journey: The Ordinary World, Call to Adventure, Refusal of the Call, Mentor Helper, Crossing the Threshold, Tests and Enemies, Approach to Inmost Cave, The Ordeal, The Reward, The Road Back, Resurrection/Atonement, and the Return with Elixir. ...

This quote shows how much Baba’s approval meant to Amir, since that is all he wished for as a child. Amir’s “ordinary world” was his childhood and his longing for Baba to be pleased.
The second step of the hero’s journey is the call to adventure. After Amir watched Hassan get raped, and never stuck up for Hassan or helped him, he is regretted it his whole life. He cannot find a way to make up for it, or how to fix things with Hassan after what happened. Until he gets the call. Rahim Khan talks to Amir and gives him an opportunity to help make up for his past mistakes. ”I want you to go to Kabul. I want you to bring Sohrab here” (Hosseini, 2003, p. 220).
