Heroes And The Defiance Of Fate

As tragic Heroes influenced by fate, Achilles and Oedipus both share a
fatal flaw that eventually leads to their demise, though there are also
numerous differences between their myths. No matter what these two heros
do, the choices and decisions that they make will lead to there downfall.
Even if they believe that they are cheating their way out of it, they
actually set the path for their pre-ordained fate.

The great Achilles of Greece is known as the greatest warrior in the Achain
Army. Still, this mightiest of warriors cannot escape his own tragic fate.
His own choices and decisions guide his fate, and fate guides his

every way, Patrolelos death is a direct blow to Achilles, and Achilles has
no choice, being the great warrior, but to seek revenge. His decision
guides fate, but at the same time, fate guides his decision. [ From one
point of view, we see that Achilles chooses not to fight of his own free
will and we see that Patrolelos chooses to masquearade in Achilles armor by
his own free will. From another point of view, we see that fate guided
these two friends to make these fatally flawed and fateful decisions.] We
must also understand that Achilles is selfish and full of himself and could
care less about the forces of fate. He thought of himself as invincible.
In spite of the warning from his Mother, Achilles chooses to continue his
plan for revenge and certain death. Fate knew all along that Achilles ego
