Hip hop is a worldwide genre of dance. It originated in the 1960Â’s among African American youths. This style of dance was made in the Bronx, New York City. It has been around for 50 years and is still one of the most popular dances around. The origin of hip hop started from the block parties of the Ghetto Brothers.

The Ghetto Brothers are the original creators of hip hop. They did block parties, where they plugged in there amps for there instruments and speakers on 163rd street and Prospect Avenue. reduced gang violence. It replaced physical violence through the use of dance. They started to perform hip hop battles of dance and artwork. Hip hop dancers are called break dancers due to Hercs break-beat dejaying. A man named Afrika Bambaataa founded the Zulu Nation. It was a confederation of street-dance crews, graffiti artists and rap musicians leading to less violence.

Hip hop has influenced parts around the world. The East coast and West coast both had different ideas of how to hip hop dance. They both blended together and created was is now known as hip hop. It changed how people danced by popping, locking and breaking.

It influenced the popularity of DJs. Previously dance was done on the basketball court or anywhere they wanted to set the location. Today they are now done also on stage and performance venues were made for audiences to view.
