Historic Judgement Based On Text

Upon first reading the presented text involving Enlil and his pickax, many quick assumptions can be inferred. Due to the involvement of Enlil and his creation of human kind using the pickaxe, we can infer that the author and audience were all religious, and placed high praise onto the pickaxe. We can also place the text into the second week of our spring semester, more specifically when the class was focused towards the Sumerian city states, which also allows us to infer that the text comes from the Sumerian culture.

these excerpts we can view that the culture praised the pickax for allowing their creation along with the belief that they were born from the earth, and can infer that the pickax was greatly valued by the culture as it allowed for agriculture and in establishing cities, “The pickax and the basket build cities...” To continue, we can infer that this came from an educated group of people, as the author had to document this, and the audience must have been able to read the passage, showing that a form of literacy, and overall education was present.
