Islam enters the world scene the most recently of all of the world's current major religions, and some understanding of the reasons why it was able to establish itself with such relative speed may be gained if we look to the social and cultural conditions associated with Islam during what is often called its Golden Age, an historical era when Islam achieved some of its greatest political strengths and during which many of the cultural and social customs and mores that still structure Islamic communities today were established.
