“Home of the Free, Because of the Brave”, is an event put on by the Phoenix VA Health Care System as a salute to veterans of the Global War on Terror. It won the 2010 Silver Anvil Award in Community Relations in government. The VA Health Care System wanted to ensure that our nation’s heroes are not forgotten by putting on the VA Veterans Days Parade community relations’ initiative. The theme was meant to show respect and honor to those who fought and are fighting in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They strategically positioned the events of the parade to make sure that they pleased their stakeholders and focused on the most recent veterans. They also made sure to include expanding the reach and scope of activities by sponsoring a series of events. They did this with leaders of corporate, non-profit, government, and Veterans’ organizations.

After this they decided what their objectives where going to be so they could then decide how they were going to accomplish them. The objectives were simple yet important.
