While I was in college I realized that there was a big problem on campus. My first encounter with binge drinking on a college level was at my soon to be fraternity house at Montana State University.
The funny thing was that I looked at the situation as the normal thing to do while at college. Kids my age were drinking as many as 9-14 beers a night for three nights, but then the rest of the week they wouldn’t have any. Some granted were at the start of alcoholism. They would of course have probably 1-3 drinks every day except on the weekends were they would go on a drinking spree. But for the most part students were relatively sober during the week.

education while at the same time continuing their drinking habit almost religiously.
The people that go to college and drink heavily for the first time or mix drugs with large amounts of alcohol are the ones that are effected the most by binge drinking. There have been more and more deaths related to binge drinking every year and the numbers are still climbing. When I said that binge drinking effected the student who had too much, or mixed drugs and alcohol I was wrong because when the student dies it’s their families that have to deal with the pain and the questions of why it had to happen to their son or daughter.
Well the Universities across the country are trying to take steps to curb the binge drinking on campus. Since awareness is the first step to stopping the problem, many colleges hand out pamphlets and flyers about binge drinking. Some universities even have guest speakers come and talk about the effects of binge drinking. But what’s the next step in the process?
