We all do things that go along with society at one point or another in our lives. We’re aren’t sure why we do those things, all we know is that everyone else is doing it so we should too. It shows how easily we can conform to society’s views and actions. It’s easier to act with a group than it is to act on our own. We don’t have to think for ourselves and just going along with a group is more simple. There are no questions or thoughts of why we are doing this and what the consequences of our actions will be. The people in this village are so scared of change that they will keep allowing a human sacrifice every year for the benefit of the community. No one believes it is wrong or should be changed, and they all hope they don’t draw the wrong card and get chosen.
If you break down the community as a whole and look to see who has conformed the most it is definitely Old Man Warner. He had been in the lottery 77 times and if anyone would realize that it was wrong first you would think that it would be him. It is because of all his experiences that he is the most conformed person. Each time he has experienced the lottery he became more brain washed and came to believe in it more.
