What was the beginning of your political career?
I went to study at the universities of Bonn and Berlin. After receiving my doctorate, I could not find work, so I worked for a radical newspaper until the Prussian government banned it. I moved to Paris to study socialism with a friend and I was exiled from Paris for my radical beliefs, so I moved to Brussels. From there I moved to London and wrote my most famous political books.
What were your views on socialism influenced by?
There were three major issues that influenced my views. Firstly, having researched the French Revolution, revolutionary change showed to be practical. Secondly, the English Industrial Revolution persuaded me ...

The increasing number of workers (thesis) were being exploited by the owners of the means of production (antithesis) who were only allowing the wealth to concentrate amongst few through competition. To increase their own profits, the wages were as low as possible. Economic crises would prevail until the workers would unite and overthrow the centers of the wealth. Then in this intermediary stage (synthesis) capitalism would be destroyed. Once the workers could control their own fate, exploitation would end and the state would become a classless society. Now doesn’t that sound ideal?

On that note, what is an accurate description of what your ultimate dream is?

My dream was that the poor, oppressed workers would rise and destroy their capitalist masters. My dream was that no classes would exist and that all people would live and prosper in communal harmony and freedom. A world free from hatred, inequality, and oppression is also my dream.
