Is It An Open Road?

The point of an advertisement, whether it be on television, radio, the side of a bus, or in a magazine, is to sell. How do you sell a product? Do you lie to make the product better? Is the power of a bathroom cleaner really glorified by a cartoon duck flying a plane? Do burping frogs really sell beer? Or is there an underlying message to every ad no matter how plain or unrelated it seems to be to the product? Does the music in the background influence your thought? Maybe the color of the car helps you fell a confidence that you may never relate to with a different color. Ads exist to sell. But they are also to manipulate.

All I’ve caught is a glimpse of this wonderful machine that has an “engine technology that will carry me over the racetracks and to private school”. But the color makes me want to see more. Not the usual black or red. No. This car is different. This car is amazing. This car is purple. Not just any purple, but a rich, gleaming purple. The purple only a strong women would drive. The voice continues to say only one more catch. “It’s a million stars, just a moon roof away”. Imagining looking up at those stars on a warm night does it for me. I’m hooked. I want this car.
