The "unfulfilled dreams" is a sense shown in Jude the Obscure. Hardy, in fact, described the novel in his preface as dramatizing "a deadly war waged between flesh and spirit." This war causes tragedies; tragedies that are results opposed to what the characters aimed.
Jude Fawley, as a center character in the novel, can represent the aspect of the most unreachable hopes of both the intellectual and the sexual ambitions. Early in life, he is shown as a person who is in love with knowledge. is not too long, unfortunately, till this dream collapses when this young man meets Arabella Donn who is the call of a woman to a man, and this call is answered by Jude who forgets about studying, and sensuality becomes first.
After finding that he has chosen the wrong way in life, this hopeless Jude has his ambitions revived, and he decides to go to Chistmrnister in order to attain his goals. He falls in love with a cousin of his, Sue Bridehead, although his is not settled yet in that city.
