There may be a large portion of citizens who disagree with the idea of assisted suicide because they believe that many requests come from people who are tired of living and not really ill. This is usually not the case in assisted suicides. Requests for assisted suicide come largely come from tragic cases where people have painful and incurable illnesses. Many people who are tired of living resort to other means to try to end their lives, and usually do not ask for help or even discuss their problems with others. If an individual who has a grim outlook on life asked a physician for help with their suicide, that physician would realize that the person had no illness. They would recommend counseling for that person and recommend they tell someone about their issues which might end up saving that person’s life.
