King Lear: Evil Nature Of Edmund

It is possible that the tragedy of King Lear could be driven almost entirely by the pure evil nature of Edmund. After Lear's initial acts of eminent domain, the play becomes driven by Edmund's cunning evil acts. Edmund forces his own brother into hiding, turns his father against his brother, orders his fathers blindness, orders the death of Cordelia, almost succeeds killing Lear and Albany, and turns sister against sister. Edmund does all of these horrible acts without any regret. This pure evil is even rationalized by Edmund.
Edmund feels that his actions are not wrong because society placed him in a position where this was the only way in which he could advance.

This is the only rationalization for Edmund's evil inclination.
We find that today, the pattern of people out casted by society and committing evil acts as a way to be strong in such a weak position, still shows its self despite being found by Shakespeare in the 16th century. Only weeks ago innocent people were killed by kids who were tormented by their peers because they were not especially fit to this society. On the news a lot recently is the question of who is to blame for this horrible act of violence, no one knows the answer. Edmund was never treated as and equal because he was a bastard. The anger that was based with in him was released on those same people who may not have treated him horribly, but made no attempt to stop society from punishing him. On the news the kids that were killed were part of a society today that feels no remorse for tormenting people because they are different looking or walk a path aside from the norm.
