Lysergic acid diethylamide, abbreviated LSD, also known as lysergide, is a semisynthetic psychedelic drug of the ergoline family. Lysergic acid diethylamide is one of the most potent hallucinogens. It is a drug of extreme unpredictability and is known for its psychological effects which can include altered thinking processes, an altered sense of time, and an inability to think and reason rationally. LSD is infamous for its key role in 1960s counterculture. LSD is mainly used as a recreational drug and as an agent in psychedelic therapy.

New Drug; this meant there would be new restrictions on the medical and scientific use of LSD. LSD became extremely popular in the United States during the counterculture of the 1960s. Unfortunately, possession of LSD was criminalized by the United States government on October 24, 1968.
The physical effects of LSD include pupil dilation, reduced appetite, sleeplessness, hypothermia, hyperthermia, elevated blood sugar, increased heart rate, and tremors. Additionally, the psychological effects of LSD include an experience of radiant colors, objects and surfaces appearing to ripple, colored patterns behind closed eyelids, an altered sense of time, crawling geometric patterns overlaying walls and other objects, delusions, and hallucinations.
