Torvald Helmer, the stereotype of a nineteenth century middle-class male, has both an imaginary view of life as a realistic view of life. His imaginary view of life is mostly expressed through his views of his marriage and the society. He considers his marriage to be perfect and his relation with his wife healthy, strong and honest. We find out that this is everything but true; something Nora only admits and realises when the resolution is reached. Torvald regards himself as a protector of his wife, a childish woman who cannot take care of herself.
