The demands for women’s rights emerged with the struggle against slavery in the United States throughout the early part of the19th century. The push for women’s rights continued throughout the rest of the 19th century and into the 20th century until on August 18, 1920, the state of Tennessee became the twenty-sixth state to ratify the 19th Amendment.
