Lord Of The Flies

Throughout conflict arises between Ralph and Jack. During the book we learn that Ralph uses common sense and believes that lighting a fire and being rescued are more important than anything else is. Jack on the other hand wants to hunt and feels that hunting for food is more important than fire. Ralph tries to organise so that there is law and order; he organises fire and shelter. Throughout the book Jack wants to become the chief. When no one votes for him as chief he leaves Ralph's group and forms his own, he then becomes chief of the hunters. Looking at the good and bad sides of human nature it would be fair to say that Ralph, Piggy and Simon reflect what it means to be good. While ...

The bad sides in human nature in the novel represents Jack Merridew. If the novel is read as religious allegory Jack emerges as an envoy of the Devil, enticing the other boys to sin. His victory over Piggy represents the triumph of violence over intellect, as he smashes one of the lenses of the fat boy's glasses. The knife that he carries is a symbol of death and destruction that accompany his every act. When jack arrives to the island he wanted to be chief and always disagree of what Ralph orders. And because he wants to be chief, he leaves the group and develops his own group, the hunters, when he is the chief and starts to hunt wiled pigs and cutting them with his bare hands. ...
