If this novel were to be interpreted as a dream, then Ralph would represent himself while Piggy, Jack, and Simon would represent an exaggerated personality trait of Ralph. Piggy representing Ralph's conscience, (good within Ralph) Jack representing Ralph's selfish greed, (evil within Ralph) and Simon representing truth (The median between good and evil).
Of the three of them, the first to die is Simon. This death would probably be considered the most significant event in Ralph's dream, as it foreshadows what will happen later in the novel. I will explain that, as well as Piggy's death later on when I make a few more things clear.
When you look at the characters of Ralph and Jack you see 2 opposite character traits. Ralph being good, and Jack being bad. You may look at these 2 characters and decide that they would want each other dead, (considering their hatred for each other) when the actuality of it is that they need each other to survive.
Consider the symbol of the Ying Yang, which symbolizes balance and states that "Within all good, there is some evil, and within all evil, there is some good." That statement would explain why when given the opportunity to kill one another, neither Jack nor Ralph act upon it. This is because killing one another would be like destroying part of themselves.
Relating back to Simon's death, remember that Simon represents the truth. If the truth is told, then you will not be able to tell the difference and/or differentiate between good and evil. This is because the truth of how ...
