Lord of the Flies

When Ralph and the other boys are rescued from the island at the end of the book the first feeling is that it’s all over. All the trauma and horrific events that happened on the island end the moment the naval officer turns up to take them home, and Ralph no longer has to endure the hate and murder attempts from Jacks savages.
One could argue that Ralphs rescue is not a real rescue because although the other boys make the gradual descent into savagery, Ralph never reaches that level. Ralph doesn’t need to be rescued from his inner savage because he never loses his humanity and rationality.
