Love (& Friendship) in Frankenstein

In the book Frankenstein, the theme of love is present. However it is the theme of the search for love and the loss of love that is more dominant.

There has always been a lack of love between the creator, Victor, and the creature that eventually lead to misery and destruction. Victor has some sort of duty as a creator to the creature. He has the duty to love his creation as a parent loves a child, and to protect and nurture him. However Victor does not do this. This leads to the loss of love for victor and the longing search for love for the creature.

The creature then goes on a long journey searching for love. The creature is aware of the way he looks and that he will never be loved ...

The creature then insists that Victor makes him a female companion. He thought this would fill the hole in his heart because he will have someone to love and someone to love him.

Frankenstein searches for happiness through love but instead he is met with the loss of several loved ones. Frankenstein often turns to Elizabeth’s love and even the love from a friend (Henry Clerval) to heal him from all the pain he has been facing, calm him down and to find happiness. Even though victors guilt and depression overpowered the happiness Elizabeth’s love brought him

Once victor destroys the female creature, the creature reacts by killing Elizabeth—the one victor loves for the one that he loves.
