In Macbeth, Shakespeare was exploring the great capacity for both good and evil that exist in one human heart. He demonstrates an epitome of this through the main character of the play, Macbeth. Although in the beginning, Macbeth only displays the good within his heart but as plot thickens, the evil which it contains begins to show. Macbeth falls from grace to sheer misery which shows the true tragedy in its nature.
Macbeth in the beginning is the man of valour, honour, and nobility. Macbeth, on the outside, seems to be the fairest man in all Scotland. When the king of Norway, “with furbished arms and new supplies of men began a fresh assault” Macbeth withstood the “terrible numbers” ...

shadows of his skins, Macbeth hides his one weakness-that is ambition. His wife knows of his ambition and stirs to act on it. She calls him a “coward” and states that in killing the King, Macbeth will “be so much more than man.” Macbeth relents, telling his wife to “mock the time with fairest show,” and kills the king. In doing so, Macbeth unrobed himself of all that is good in human soul-kindness, honor, and love. Macbeth became so blind by his new robes of kingdom and power that he didn’t even noticed her wife slipping in to insanity. In the beginning Macbeth had a hard time with the concept of murder that he regrets killing Duncan “wake Duncan with thoust knocking, I would if I could.” Macbeth’s heart causes him to feel remorse as he states “I am afraid to think what I have done… To know my deed,’twere best not know myself.”
