Male Characters in ‘A Dolls House’ and ‘Look Back in Anger’ Display Unattractive Qualities.

Within both these plays, ‘A Dolls House’ and ‘Look Back in Anger’ the male characters are quite dominant and overpowering within each household, showing constant flares of each individuals unattractive qualities.
We see that in ‘A Dolls House’ Torvald, the husband, father and bread winner of the home, is a character who cannot let anyone take control or view anything different from him. He is overbearing and patronising to his wife, Nora, as he views her as nothing more than a woman and at times a child. Also, Krogstad, who is a low-level employee that workings in the bank with Torvald, is seen as ‘morally sick’ and through most the play be is the evil villain who ruins all ...

and dead inside, with no true cares, worries or burdens to carry he seem to float on through his life hoping that every stays the same and never changes.
Within these four men we see their flaws and unattractive qualities through their words, actions and lack of actions.
Within ‘A Dolls House’ we see that the character of Torvald is very patronising. He uses pet names towards his wife, Nora, that demean her and we see that he constantly treats her as if she were his own child. Such things as:

“sweet little spendthrift”, “little featherhead”, “sweet little skylark”

Furthermore within ‘A Dolls House’, we see Torvald as the typical male figure, he wants to provide and protect his wife and children. Yet at times we see too much of him treating his wife, Nora, as he would his children.
