Michael Vick, now a retired NFL player, was convicted and sent to a federal prison for 21 months, for participating in dog fighting. Some may argue that this conduct was a part of his culture, and he should not have been incarcerated.
Bad Newz Kennels is the enterprise owned and financed by Michael Vick. During this venture, the dogs were mistreated during training exercises. He executed the less fortunate fighting dogs by drowning and hanging them personally. The dog fighting took place in Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. People of the United States are fanatics over animals. Animal lovers cannot distinguish animals from humans. They have the mentality of Peter Singer, who believes animals and humans are equal.
It was very wrong for what Vick and his cohorts participated in, but it did not justify being incarcerated. Carl Cohen would probably defend Michael Vick. Cohen believes that rights only exist in humans.
It did not help his defense being an African American man, NFL player and lying under oath. Unfortunately, his ethnicity did not work for him, but against him. He was sentenced 23 months but was released after 21 months.
