“The Ministers Black Veil” and “Young Goodman Brown”

The Puritans had judgmental minds during their time, even today there is still a lot of judgment being used. In “The Minister’s Black Veil” and “Young Goodman Brown” both stories deal with being judged by others. Also a similarity dealing with both of the short stories and the Puritans, is their religious values. A big resemblance in the two short stories is sin and this is also true with the Puritans.. Although “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Ministers Black Veil” share the same religious values and the automatic judgment of people, they went about the way of handling sin differently.

Goodman Brown”, “It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the wicked, nor were the sinners abashed by the saints(“Brown”,120). During the time of the Puritans, many people were being judged for many reasons, one being that if they believed in other sorority than God, there was a harsh punishment. Judgment is not only wrong but people deserve to be given the choice of the religion.
The Puritans and their religious values; beliefs became a big similarity that shows how the beliefs are represented in “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Ministers Black Veil”. “Life was hard, but in this stern and unforgiving place they were free to worship as they chose”(“God In America” para. 3). The Puritans were able to worship wherever and whenever they wanted. Though they had the right to worship, no one had ever worshiped throughout the forest.
