Mind Map Explanation

On our board, we compared the parallel worlds between the Matilda's and Pip's very different worlds. Our group analyzed the similarities between the two in the people they meet, events that take place, and things that the two characters do. The first and last things you see on the mind map are the chunks of land. One is an island, because both Pip and Matilda come from a small village or island which not a lot of people know of. They also both end up in London at some point in each book. For Pip, he goes to London near the beginning of the novel, and as for Matilda, she goes to London at the very end of the book. The two characters contrast each other.

on our map is a skull. This simply signifies death, and how it had its effects on both of the characters Matilda and Pip. This concept changes, however, because for Pip, the death that he experienced was of his sister, and it was a happier moment for him. The deaths that Matilda had experienced were shocking and traumatizing. She lost Mr. Watts, the teacher, and the person who she thought the most highly of at the time, and she also lost her mother. The moods between the two situations are very different, but the whole idea of losing a loved one is similar.

Our fourth and fifth pictures both have to do with the benefactors. The fourth picture is a photo of Pip's benefactors, and the fifth picture is of Matilda's. For Pip, he had thought that Ms. Havishom gave him the money and the chance to move to London, when all along, it was the escaped convict. Similarly to Matilda, she thought that Mr. Watts was going to get her off of the island, but he died, so he never actually helped ...
