My Philosophy In Teaching/Coaching At The Secondary Level



My idea of success and being a winner is being an effective teacher both in life and on the playing field. I am not becoming just a coach; I am becoming an educator, a sculptor of young minds, if you will. My job is to lead young people in a positive direction. Once I get a young person started down a positive road, I must then give them the love and support to develop the focus and determination to continue.
As a coach, I believe to be successful you need three key ingredients: discipline, organization, and hard work. As a team, discipline means we must be sharp and in control at all times and eliminate mistakes. I would rather run eight plays to perfection then try a book full of ...

the week is how we'll play in the game; therefore, I will not accept sloppy practice sessions.
My philosophy as a teacher/coach and in life begins and ends with respect. If I cannot respect myself then it is impossible to have true respect for anyone else, and if I cannot respect others, how can I expect my students to respect each other. Respect starts with self-esteem and coaches teach self-esteem. If I am not careful I could just as easily tear down one's self-esteem. It is easier than many people think to build self-esteem because of the position I'm in as a coach. Being there for them, listening, providing guidance and being a positive role model are just a few ways to build an individual's esteem.
Dealing with people on and off the field is the same for me. I enjoy hanging out and listening to people talk. My father always said if you keep your mouth shut and really listen to people, they will tell you everything you need to know about them. Being a teacher/coach ...
