My Theory

Over this semester we have studied philosophies and theories ranging from Confucianism to Darwinian theories. All and all, we have gained a better understanding of the many ways in which we can view the universe and human nature. I find myself however, asking “What kinds of things remain constant for all humans?”” Can some people or cultures be better than others?” and the age-old question, “Is all relativism wrong?” After pondering these questions, I have developed a theory that gets to the core of it all. feed their appetites at the expense of their own well-being. If Spirit is dominant, the passionate and emotional side of our character is centered around the idea of status on a social level. Ambition, desire for honor and glory as well as cravings for admiration prevail. However if reason is dominant, the intellectual, thinking part of our soul, decides between alternatives, and suppresses dangerous urges. It is important for reason to dominant because it acts as great counsel, making one seek understanding and insight before acting. If a person or culture can find the appropriate balance between the three, with reason dominating, then they can seek to better themselves over other human beings or cultures.
