My Views on Education

Most of my encounters with diversity in an educational setting have focused on gaining new knowledge about different cultures. I would like to offer a different approach that does not anchor itself on showing how we are different, but rather teaches how to react effectively to people who differ from oneself. I am not speaking of learning political correctness because that would not bring about the change I envision with the way diversity is approached in educational settings. are educating the students on the importance of diversity, yet the school is unwilling to change how they respond to students that are diverse. The message that I see being sent is that if you are diverse you need to adapt to us and not the other way around.
The C.O.W. Project that I am involved in at my school takes on the approach that I spoke about earlier. We recognize and accept that we are diverse, but we have learned how to work with each other to spread our message.
