Bowing to no man, Napoleon struck an accord with the Vatican. He established 50 bishops throughout France, and oversaw all of their actions. “He paid the clergy directly, and he made them financially dependent on his treasury”. ? “He had the whole church in his hands, he had the whole wide church in his hands” ?. Until then, it was humanly impossible to be such a successful leader without the hand of God bestowing his power and blessings upon you. Napoleons ingenuity and success came from his enlightened mind.
Napoleon was able to establish a political system based solely on merit, not aristocracy. His advancements were unparalleled by any other ruler of his time. He truly believed all men were created equal, and all women were created less equal than men.
