Emotions can be a powerful form of persuasion; it can mislead or guide you to do things, you might not normally do without a little support. There are many emotions portrayed though out the novel, love as a weapon being one of them. Marcia conquered an emotional mountain without Bucky even realizing it. She had thought out almost everything he might use as a defense, with smart, fast comebacks; always two thoughts ahead she was playing a game with him and was winning.
As mentioned she had plenty of reasons to convince Bucky to move up with her, “I need you more than ever. I love you so much. I miss you so much. I dread the idea of something happening to you” (86). All lined up in one flowing statement, bombarding him with thoughts not giving him time to think about each individual statement. She wanted him to be with her and she was going to say anything to obtain her goal. When Bucky said that he already had a job, she already knew what to say: he would escape the epidemic and be safe up in the mountains.
