In this work equipment fault detection and diagnosis system is proposed for large petrochemical plant. This includes identification of the root cause of equipment upsets (fault diagnosis) and the provision of recommended corrective actions to restore the equipment to normal condition (fault correction) in real time basis. detect any abnormality/ performance deterioration in heat exchanger, control valve and pump at its incipient stage. This system is based on a statistical data driven modeling technique called "Projection to latent Structure (PLS)". This system compares the actual equipment performance with PLS based model output on real time basis. In case of any abnormality actual performance will deviate from model output and will send an auto generated warning e-mail to concern operating person/engineer. This fault detection system is developed in EG plant (UNITED) to assist engineers in understanding and assessing process equipment healthiness status in real time basis and responding quickly to abnormal events thereby enabling processing plant to maintain operational integrity. This generalized intelligent software can be useful and extend to any other process plant also.
