Throughout Nickel and Dimed Barbara Ehrenreich explores the struggle of America’s working poor in eking out a living. She addresses the issues dealing with finding housing accommodations, living on minimum wages, applying for jobs and keeping a sense of worth and integrity in working conditions. Out of these three issues that she talks about I am going to talk to you about one of these issues and give u some examples of problems that people are dealing with that she has observed in her personal experience. she believed in. For example, the situation with holy and her husband then on top of that dealing with her boss. From reading this book it has reflected on my life because a lot of teenagers my age are getting paid minimum wage and so are some single parents that are living off of minimum wage.
Now for me I work at a daycare center watching kids all day and I get paid minimum wage which is about $7.25hr. I live off of this I help out my parents by giving some of my paycheck to pay for my books for college or even my some of my tuition. It’s not easy living off of minimum wage but for Barbara she knew that and worked more than one job at a time. She would work at a place during the week and then on the weekends work at another place just to get by on food and living expenses.
