Introduction to the Nike Case

Nike is one of the most recognized brand names for athletic shoes and apparel all over the world. Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman founded Nike in Beaverton, Oregon. Early on, the company identified its overall strategy of providing quality sports equipment. The mission statement of Nike reads "To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world", Nike then goes on to define what the word athlete means. The Nike mission quotes Bill Bowerman who said: "If you had a body, you are an athlete." As a result, many good and valuable outcomes were imposed by society on the organizations. Trade unions and collective bargaining resulted due to poor working condition and safety issues during the Industrial Revolution.
