Obsessive-compulsive disorder also known as OCD, is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, images, and sensations, obsessions and engage in behaviors or mental acts in response to these thoughts or obsessions. OCD affects about 2.2 million American adults. It affects both men and woman.

It is important for parents to try to pick up on the child’s disorder early so they can take them to a doctor The symptoms can worsen, or they can ease. People will try to help themselves by avoiding situations that trigger their obsessions and may try to cure themselves by using alcohol or drugs. Unwanted and repetitive thoughts occur frequently in a person’s mind with OCD. An example of this would if a person thought a dish was unclean even after being washed and must wash in multiple times in order to makes sure it is. Another example would be when looking a house or car door they would go back and check multiple times to make sure they locked it.
