PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) is a common anxiety disorder that develops after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. There are many traumatic events that can cause one to have PTSD, but the focus of this paper is its link to sexual abuse, types of women affected, and the importance of immediate treatment. Violence against women is a prevalent social problem, as multiple national data sources suggest that at least one in two women will be victims of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), adult sexual assault (ASA), intimate partner violence (IPV) domestic violence, or sexual harassment (SH) in their lifetimes.
