The Peloponnesian war was a costly war for Greece’s city-states, considering it was a war between its very own city-states. The overall fighting of this war “took place from Sicily to the coast of Asia Minor and from the Hellespont and Thrace to Rhodes.” The war was between the Delian League that was led by Athens and the Peloponnesian League that was led by Sparta. The Peloponnesian war is a war that can be divided into three wars and these three wars can be divided into five phases; the first war consisted of two phases, the second consisted of one phase, and the third war consisted of two phases. One flaw of Athens’ defensive strategy was that the overcrowding of Athens caused a plague to break out from 430-427. The second phase of the Archidamian war was from 426-421 B.C. This phase was a phase of strategy change for Athens, and they began becoming more offensive.
