Across Early Modern Europe between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, individuals were persecuted as witches because it was believed that they were a threat to the Christian community. A witch is considered to be a specific person who can mysteriously injure other people by supernatural or magical powers. The witch trials originated in southern France and western Switzerland during the early fifteenth century and suddenly spread quickly throughout the continent. These witches, being male or female, were identified, accused, arrested and put on trial, accumulating various punishments, which applied to certain regions and territories. Additionally, the community assumed that these people were not just ordinary witches, but Satanic witches who had countless special powers and abilities and would fly to nocturnal meetings know as the Witches' Sabbath where they would take part in sexual intercourse with demons.
