Personal Writing: My Autobiography

November 16, 1982 is a special day to me. On that Tuesday
afternoon at 4:09 p.m., I, Amanda Marie Burns, was born in Bedford County
Hospital, weighing in at seven pounds and five ounces. My mom and I
spent my first week of life in Shelbyville, Tennessee, where my paternal
grandparents lived and where my dad spent his childhood. On Thanksgiving
Day, one week later, we traveled to Huntsville, Alabama, back to where my
parents currently lived. My maternal grandmother later came to Huntsville
to help my mom take care of me. I was a sick baby. I had my first ear
infection when I was four months old. Ironically, the one thing that
helped calm me down was my dad shooting fireworks off the ...

long enough for the three of us to find a house. Then we moved only five
miles away to a place I could finally call “home.” In August of 1988, I
started kindergarten, at Swansboro Primary School. In October of that
same year Mom gave birth to my sister Kira. In 1990, to my sister Kristy
was born. The next year went on to Swansboro Elementary School, where I
was involved in many plays and activities and kept my grades up with
honors. I was also enrolled in Spanish classes throughout elementary
school. Also in 1991, I was baptized and saved on my ninth birthday.

In May of 1993, Mom went through another divorce, which sent us
back to Knoxville, again. That year I got involved with softball, which
turned out to be my favorite hobby. In August of 1993, I attended Ritta
Elementary School. Then in August of 1994, I went on to Carter Middle
School, where I continued to make good grades. In August of 1997, I went
to Carter High School, at which I am currently enrolled. I am ...
