Personal Writing: My Vacation At Beech Mountain, North Carolina



The times of my life which stick out most positively in my mind are the memories I’ve collected during my trips to the North Carolina Blue Ridge mountains. Each year my family and I visit Beech Mountain, North Carolina, to relax and get away from our daily city-life routines. While vacationing we enjoy rafting, hiking, and hot cocoa in the winter or on cold summer nights.
Nestled in the woods and high atop a mountain, our cabin is quaint and cozy. It is a log cabin with a long, winding, gravel driveway. Resting on about two acres of land, our cabin is a short walk away from a beautifully clear stream: so pure one can drink the water straight from it.

Sometimes I sit and observe all of nature’s critters at work: rabbits digging, squirrels playing, and birds chirping. I also enjoy the wonderful views nature has to give. It is absolutely breathtaking: the colors of the flowers in the springtime. Bright yellows, warm reds, soft blues and hushed purples paint the mountainside a beautiful rainbow. I like to write poetry when I’m surrounded with such beauty; not necessarily about what I see, but how I feel and what I dream. Nature inspires my artistic side.
A very special place in my mind, as well as in my heart, is reserved for one memory from a North Carolina vacation. In the summer of 1997, I awoke early on a Thursday morning.
