Plato came to a conclusion that all the then existing governments were bad to the extent that they could not be redeemed. This happened when a democratic court voted in favor of Socrates' execution on a charge of impiety that he considered unjust. He noted with great concern that the human race would not have respite from evil unless real philosophers acquired political power or those who had the political authority became real philosophers. His ideas on the quest for justice in the republic exposed him as an ardent supporter of social justice. Plato considers justice as one of the most fundamental political and ethical concepts. He defines justice as an individual virtue, rights and societal order.
