China's First Empire

The Qin dynasty was the most important period in Chinese history. This dynasty defined China and gave rise to the oriental culture and civilization; all of which would not have happened if it weren't for Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor. Qin Shi Huangdi left a legacy that a like of which has never been seen before, a nation unified for the first time with a single language that is still being used, a system of administration that survives till this day, and a great wall that still stands at the edge of his realm.

On top of that, Qin Shi Huangdi introduced a simplified script, and unified the system of currency, weights and measure (Loewe, 71). Additionally, Qin Shi Huangdi requested books and scriptures associated to the teachings from the Zhou dynasty to be burnt, and scholars who studied them to be killed (Loewe, 72). The changes made played an important role in China's history. It can be argued that without these changes, the empire would not be unified.

In conclusion, I believe Qin dynasty was the foundation of modern China. And it accurately defines how China's Empire would be ruled for 2000 years. The changes Qin Shi Huangdi made in this dynasty formed a renaissance to the Chinese civilization; it influenced our language, our culture and our government today .
